My interest in photography grew out of a love of signs when I was about nine years old. On road trips, Dad or Mom would pull the station wagon over and patiently wait for me to sketch various and sundry signs: “Dekalb” in a flying ear of corn, a smiling orange drinking “Nesbitt’s” through a straw. I became fascinated with old neon signs and began using a camera in the late 1970s.
My “Neon Java” body of work encompasses a variety of images, shot since the early 1980s, that captured my imagination in some way.
